Azadeh Akhlaghi


Born in 1978 in Shiraz, Iran, and having studied in the University of Melbourne, Azadeh Akhlaghi now lives and works in Tehran and Melbourne. Azadeh is a post-conceptual artist, beginning her career in 2001. Her main concern is photography, video-arts and making short movies. Azadeh’s practice acknowledges conceptual and postmodern approaches to contemporary art through photography. She was also an assistant director to Abbas Kiarostami and Manijeh Hekmat during 2005 to 2008, while she made a couple of short films which have been screened in numerous film festivals such as Berkeley art museum, Pusan and Oslo.
She has obtained numerous awards, and her work has been exhibited in shows worldwide, including Candlestar's Whispered Secrets, Murmuring Dreams in 2008 and Masques of Shahrazad in 2009.
