Strood Academy's Bright Future


The transformation of education in Medway currently underway at the Strood Academy was the subject of a full page article  in The Independent (13/01/11). The Academy is about to embark on a major redevelopment programme that will result in the creation of a new ‘state of the art’ campus that will offer an exciting range of facilities to pupils and the local community.

The Independent article describes the way the academy’s pupils have been given a say in how their school is run, and the positive results that this strategy has created. Since the merger of the two schools which comprise the Academy, performance figures have improved and the number of pupils choosing to stay on into the sixth-form have increased. Richard Garner writes that ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating – or in the results in the case of schools – and the Strood Academy’s are on an upward curve’.
