Iran Unbowed

To coincide with the Frieze Art Fair and in response to the current popularity of Iranian art on the international stage, Candlestar is staging an exhibition of artworks by Iranian artists in collaboration with the Hyatt Regency, Portman Square, from 10 – 24 October 2009. The Hyatt Regency is the official hotel of the Frieze Art Fair 2009 and in line with the Frieze’s focus on today’s most exciting contemporary art, Iran Unbowed will present contemporary artists from one of the world’s most vibrant young art scenes . The exhibition will feature a mixture of established Iranian artists such as Abbas Kiarostami and Farideh Lashai; major young talents such as Pooya Aryanpour and Darioush Gharazad as well as two artists whose work has never previously been seen outside Iran.  Iran Unbowed also coincides with the final exhibition of the Contemporary Art Prize that Candlestar has produced for the London-based charity the Magic of Persia. The Finalists' exhibition will be at the Royal College of Art from 15 – 17 October.

Iran Unbowed is the latest in Candlestar’s Iran 2009 series that began with the Masques of Shahrazad at the Mall Galleries (9-14 March 2009) and Abbas Kiarostami, a Photographic Overture at the Purdy Hicks Gallery (27 May – 30 May 2009). All of the works featured in Iran Unbowed will also be available for purchase and a percentage of the money raised from sales will be donated to the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize.
