Iranian Art in London, October 2009
10 - 24 October 2009
To coincide with Frieze Art Fair and in response to the current popularity of contemporary Iranian art, Candlestar has organised a week of exhibitions and events to celebrate and promote the work of the best emerging talent in the Iranian art world along with some of its more established figures.
The week revolves around 3 exhibitions that will run simultaneously: Iran Unbowed, an exhibition of paintings by 14 artists including prominent figures such as Parviz Tanavoli and Farideh Lashai, will enjoy a fortnight’s residency at the Hyatt Regency in London. At the same time, the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize Finalists’ Exhibition, the first prize for emerging contemporary Iranian artists, will show at the Royal College of Art along with Facts & Illusions, a pioneering exhibit of 14 Iranian video artists curated by Dr. Sami Azar.
The Winner will be awarded a solo show at the Saatchi Gallery in Autumn 2010. The Saatchi Gallery aims to provide a forum for contemporary art from arond the world, presenting work by largely unseen young artists whose work has been rarely or never exhibited in the UK. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the Winner to be exposed to the international audience of the London art scene.
