Iranian Artists in Paris
November promises to be an exciting month for Candlestar’s associated artists, as three Iranian photographers prepare for international exhibitions. Paris hosts the renowned photography fair, Paris Photo (19-22 November), which this year spotlights Arab and Iranian photography, by hosting an unprecedented exploration of the arena with curator Catherine David.
Candlestar associate artist Sadegh Tirafkan will be featured by Tehran’s Assar Gallery. To play on this year’s theme at the fair, “Standing Inside, Looking In,” Tirafkan’s featured works will span his last three series: “The Loss of Our Identity,” “Whispers from the East” and “Multitude” and touch on common themes in his work – culture, identity and gender. The Assar Art Gallery stand is located at Booth D33, Salle Soufflot, Carrousel du Louvre, 99 rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris.
Iranian filmmaker and photographer, Abbas Kiarostami’s work from his well known series “Roads,” will also be featured at Paris Photo by London-based gallery, Purdy Hicks, whose stand is A4 Salle Delorme.
Simultaneously, Abbas Kowsari, a finalist in the Candlestar produced Prix Pictet, is on view in Photoquai of musée du quai Branly in Paris. Two works from his series, Nuance d'eau, Lac d'Orumieh, 2008, will be displayed until the 22nd of November.
