Prix Pictet Commission Photographs to be exhibited at Diemar/Noble, London 20 April – 1 May 2010
The photographs that Ed Kashi has made for this year's Prix Pictet Commission will be presented at the Diemar/Noble Photography Gallery in central London for two weeks at the end of April.
The Prix Pictet Commission is an annual invitation for a photographer, chosen from the Prix Pictet shortlist, to produce a portfolio of images by visiting a region where Pictet & Cie is supporting a sustainability programme related to the theme of the award. Pictet are currently supporting the work that Azafady, a UK charity and Malagasy-registered NGO, is carrying out in Madagascar. Madagascar has suffered severe environmental degradation, but still retains some of the highest biodiversity anywhere. Azafady’s aim is to enable the poorest communities in Madagascar to develop sustainable ways of living and to increase local access to health care and education.
Shortlisted artist Ed Kashi was invited to visit Madagascar to produce a series of photographs that highlight many of the issues that Azafady are focusing on in this unique and endangered environment. Ed travelled to Madagascar in January, and a selection of his photographs will be presented at the London exhibition.
The Diemar/Noble Photography Gallery is situated in London’s West End and specialises in stocking and exhibiting photographic work from the medium’s early masters.
