Prix Pictet Commission
Diemar/Noble Photography, London, 20 April – 1 May 2010
Shortlisted photographer Ed Kashi was awarded the second Prix Pictet Commission to visit a region where Pictet & Cie are supporting a sustainability project related to the theme of the award. Kashi visited Madagascar to document the severe environmental degradation that this island has suffered. The resulting photographs will be presented at Diemar/Noble Photography in central London, 20 April - 1 May 2010.
The photographs that Ed Kashi has made for this year's Prix Pictet Commission will be presented at the Diemar/Noble Photography Gallery in central London for two weeks at the end of April.
The Prix Pictet Commission is an annual invitation for a photographer, chosen from the Prix Pictet shortlist, to produce a portfolio of images by visiting a region where Pictet & Cie is supporting a sustainability programme related to the theme of the award. Pictet are currently supporting the work that Azafady, a UK charity and Malagasy-registered NGO, is carrying out in Madagascar. Madagascar has suffered severe environmental degradation, but still retains some of the highest biodiversity anywhere. Azafady’s aim is to enable the poorest communities in Madagascar to develop sustainable ways of living and to increase local access to health care and education.
Shortlisted artist Ed Kashi visited Madagascar and has produced a series of photographs that highlight many of the issues that threaten this unique and endangered environment.
Diemar/Noble Photography is situated in London’s West End and specialises in stocking and exhibiting photographic work from the medium’s early masters.
