Iranian Art

Candlestar has played an important role in uncovering major new artistic talents in Iran and facilitating their entry into the international art market. We work with both Masters such as Abbas Kiarostami and Parviz Tanavoli as well as a widening group of younger artists including Darioush Gharazad, Tahereh Samadi Tari, Goga Bayat, and Abbas Kowsari.

To date we have staged four significant exhibitions in London: Whispered Secrets, Murmuring Dreams (April 2008), Masques of Shahrazad (March 2009), Iran Unbowed (October 2009) and Abbas Kiarostami (May 2009) – a photographic overture in association with Purdy Hicks Gallery. We showed the paintings of Tahereh Samadi Tari at the Volta Art Fair in New York in 2009 in collaboration with Galerie Vanessa Quang, Paris and we were advisers to Galerie Thaddeaus Ropac for their exhibiton Raad o Bargh (February – March 2009) which brought together works by seventeen Iranian artists such as Avish Khebrehzadeh, Ala Dehghan, Ali Banisadr, Farhad Moshiri and Shirin Aliabadi.

We are currently developing ideas for an exhibition of emerging Iranian photographers which we hope to bring to London in 2013 or 2014.
