Prix Pictet Conversations on Photography
Prix Pictet held its fourth Conversations on Photography at the Whitechapel Gallery on Wednesday 12 June at 7pm. The artist Ahlam Shibli talked about the ways her photographic work addresses the violent denial of home, as well as the limitations and restrictions exercised in its name, tracing resistance against the loss of home and revealing efforts to create new ways to exist and survive far from it. Shibli was in conversation with Jean-François Chevrier, Professor of the History of Contemporary Art at L’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris.
An exhibition of work by Ahlam Shibli, Phantom Home, is currently touring at Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Jeu de Paume, Paris, and Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, Porto, where it will end on the 9th of February 2014.
