Mayor Welcomes Photo London
As part of a special event held on 16 December 2013 at Somerset House to mark its tenth anniversary, Candlestar unveiled plans to create Photo London – an annual event dedicated to photography. Starting in May 2015 Photo London will take place at Somerset House each year. The arrival of Photo London, which will be an event like no other was welcomed by Boris Johnson, Mayor of London;
“At a time when so many of us are using our smartphones to capture images of the people and sights around us, we shouldn’t forget photography’s significance as a long-standing art form. There is an incredibly rich variety of photography, both historical and contemporary, and it would be wonderful to see a new international photo festival in London. It would add to the other art and design festivals that draw visitors from across the UK and around the world.”
Candlestar are producing Photo London and partnering with the LUMA Foundation. The non-profit LUMA Foundation is committed to supporting the activities of independent artists and pioneers, as well as international institutions working in the fields of art and photography, publishing, documentary, and multimedia. Established by Maja Hoffmann, the foundation promotes challenging artistic projects combining a particular interest in environmental issues, human rights, education, and culture in the broadest sense. The Financial Times will be the global media partners.
